Pixar Concept Art Posters

Graphic Design Mar 2, 2024

While Pixar movies find final form in Computer Generated models, there is a genesis that occurs with the physical medium of concept art. Seeing the design take shape gives a greater appreciation for the important elements that make the journey from initial sketch to fully realized polygonal rig.

I've scoured the internet and libraries for these pieces of concept art and cobbled together a custom set of posters for the complete Pixar collection. Beyond edge-painting with content-fill and minor color correction, I tried to leave the concept art in its original form to let the ideas take the spotlight. For that same reason, I opted to do single-color white logos for the series so that the color palette doesn't disturb the often vibrant Gouache or pencilled backdrop.

Ultimately, I found the greatest resource for these pieces of concept art to be a series of book published under the general name "The art of...". For more recent films, the concept artist may have a website where they post the work that they did on a film; this can be problematic if their contract does not allow them to share the work, however.

I've proudly compiled and shared this collection on ThePosterDB

with a commitment to regularly updating it with new additions and enhancements. Join me in celebrating the artistry behind DreamWorks animation, as we continue to uncover the magic behind the movies we love.
